Eklund: Sharks and Devils discussing Major Trade?
Been looking into rumors today that the Sharks and Devils have had preliminary discussions regarding sending a "major veteran asset" to NJ for defenseman Adam Larsson and possibly a pick. Hearing that despite the Sharks start they are heavily pursuing a Dman and would like to move Burns back to forward.

I sure as a hell hope not. He's 35. I would rather keep Larsson. I would of loved to have Marleau 4 years ago, but not now. Ek said for a veteran so that's either Marleau, Thornton, or Pavelski. 35, 35, and 30 year olds. Just what we need, players about to retire. A (frank)ing joke. |

You seem tuned into this, so I'll ask: Is Larsson's play the problem, or does DeBoer simply not like him as a player, or was he simply overrated and doesn't have the physical or mental ability to match his draft placement? |

I don't doubt that the Sharks would like to move Burns back to forward. I think they were hoping Nieto would step up into the top 6 role and I don't think he has.
So they have 5 top 6 forwards, and their 6th top 6 forward is playing defense. So by subtracting Marleau or Thornton, to get Larsson, to move Burns back to forward, is a lateral move.

A forward can be demoted. I don't see NJ tinkering with their lineup while they are winning though. Only way I see this is if NJ believes they need an upgrade somewhere. |

I guess in some sense but Sharks are looking to move away from Thornton and Marleau. I do not believe Larsson and a pick is good enough to land either one though. |
